Dane Propoggia enjoyed a successful transition to the senior circuit in 2009, shining on the doubles court. He peaked at world No 672 in Singles in Oct 2009, following five R16 and one QF in Futures level. And in the doubles rankings No.360 in October, following one final and four semifinal and four quarterfinal appearances at Futures level with several partners. In the final year of his junior career in 2008, he qualified for the Australian Open boys’ singles and reached the second round. He also won through qualifying for the Wimbledon boys’ singles, reaching the quarterfinals and losing to eventual runner-up, Henri Kontinen. Dane won the singles title at the 28th International Spring Bowl in St. Polten and also scooped the doubles title (w/Junior A Ore). He also enjoyed success at the Gallipoli World Youth Tennis Cup, winning the singles, and at the Japan Open Junior Championships, claiming the doubles title (w/Niki Moser). Dane began playing tennis for fun at the age of four and became serious about the sport aged six. He credits his family as his greatest influence for the support they have provided him with throughout his career. His tennis idol is Rafael Nadal for his physical and mental strength and for “playing his heart out, no matter what”. A fan of dance, electro/house and R’n’B music, Dane enjoys hanging out with his mates and watching movies. His favourite films are Old School, the five Rocky movies and the Godfather trilogy. He says the best thing about being a tennis professional is travelling the world, meeting new people and doing the job he’s always dreamed about. |
